Dubbed "Land of Gold", it is one of the largest countries in South-east Asia, stretching 2000 km from north to south.

Myanmar's capital Yangon can take you back 20 or 30 years compared to most other capital cities in South East Asia, However, a visit to the backwash hill tribes is more like a voyage into the middle ages!

Although the country was originally called Burma, in the native tongue Burma's name has always been Myanmar. In 1989 the Burmese government issued a decree that the country be known by the name of Myanmar among the international community.
