Is Myanmar a safe country
to visit, I hear there are political problems and
unrest?
Myanmar is one of the safest countries in the world.
Crime rates are very low and travelling around our
country is very safe. However, it's always a good
idea to remain cautious. The political unrest and
fighting that you may have read about is generally
exaggerated. The government has signed ceasefire
agreements with 17 insurgents groups, most recently
with the last remaining resistance of the Karen
National Union. So there is little or no fighting
now.
Myanmar people are generally calm and happy. By the
very nature of their unique traditions they have
become known across the world for the genuine warmth
of their hospitality. There is little or no
religious or racial discrimination in Myanmar.
Moslems, Buddhists, Hindus and Chinese often all
live side by side in the same street quite happily. |
